As stylists, we like to think of ourselves as creatives, we're artists, right. But part of being in business as a hairstylist includes building your clientele. This seems like it can be daunting... Back in the day, you would put flyers on cars or sit in your chair and wait for walk-ins to appear. Thankfully have things changed!
In today’s world, it's never been easier and anything is possible, but first you have to put in the work.
Imagine yourself as a referral machine and having clients talking about you~
This is totally possible! I know because it happened to me after I moved across country. I was booked solid and bringing in over 100K by my second year. It doesn’t have to be hard, but there are a series of systems you need to have in place to drive the results you are dreaming of.
While cutting and guest experience are the most important components to growing any clientele, you also need to be utilizing the right business building practices and tools for it to become easy. Organization is key for any business, so setting up these systems will make your life easier and rewarding at the same time. They have absolutely helped mine.
The first thing to determine is~ What is your specialty? This is your brand moving forward.
Who is your target market? Speak to THEM, and only share photos of the type of work you WANT to do. Makes sense, right?
Next~ Where do they hang out? FB, IG, Google, neighborhood groups, NextDoor? That’s where you want to share pics of your work.
Now, how do you get them to trust you? Another important component is getting reviews in order to grow. Most people will trust a review over a word-of-mouth recommendation. That’s crazy! But, as reality has it, this is why it’s important to have an online presence.
A website and online booking are also must haves for your business. Here is where you will tell your story, have your portfolio, new guest instructions and policies. By providing as much information as possible here, you will have less emails and messages to return after a long day of work.
How do I keep them? By sending out automated welcome and follow up emails, you will guide, instruct, and keep clients informed on your policies, services, prices, and their upcoming appointments.
Curl specialist near me is searched thousands of times a day, not to mention, balayage specialist, best colorist, etc. Google is your friend, but it only works if you use it.
Imagine the traffic you can have from this most used search engine....

If you envision having your business grow easily and effortlessly, you absolutely can with the right branded systems in place. Are you willing to put in the work? Once you do, you'll be on autopilot and the payoff will be well worth it! After these business practices are on automated, you can focus on cutting and pleasing your clients, while the new guests just keep rolling in. Your phone won't ring and DM's wont be overwhelming (not a bad thing!) because as I mentioned, you will have instructed them along the way, but your business WILL increase. Isn't this why we go to work every day?
